An item referred to the Sandwich Gazette dated 18 November [1837] that the British whaler Gledstanes of London was totally lost.(1)

1. She sunk on 9 June 1837 on the reef of Cure Island or Ocean Island nowadays called Kure-atoll. Tonnage 428 ton. Built in 1827.
