An item reported that in the early morning of 19 February the French battleship Dunkerque (1) joined by 2 destroyers and 2 submarines left Mers-el-Kébir, French Algeria with unknown destination [naval base at Toulon, Vichy France]. The French destroyers Kersaint (2), Cid (?) and Alcyon (3) already left Algiers, French Algeria. The J.I.C. commented that the departure of the Dunkerque was no surprise, she needed to be docked and her fire control equipment be repaired. However every move of a French important ship including at Martinique was to be monitored.
