An item reported that on 23 August a German submarine [SM UC-74] torpedoed the French steamship Parana (6,249 tons) in the Aegean Sea.(1)

1. Type UC II submarine preceded by UC I succeeded by UC III. Ordered on 12 January 1916, laid down by AG Vulcan, Hamburg, Germany with yard number 79, launched on 19 October 1916, commissioned on 25 November 1916, interned at Barcelona, Spain on 21 November 1919, surrendered to France on 26 March 1919 and broken up at Toulon, France in July 1921.
