Similar Azusa Maru and Katura Maru. Call sign JNTL. Owner in 1939 Marutatsu Kaiun K.K., Kobe, Japan. Built by Urabe Zosen Tekkoshoin 1937. Identical to the Katura Maru taken over by the navy in November 1941, converted in to the auxiliary gunboat Katsura Maru No. 2 GO, returned to owners in January 1943 and torpedoed and sunk by the American submarine USS S-28 west of Onekotan, Kuril Islands on 19 September 1943? Gross tonnage 1,368 tons, net tonnage 808 tons, deadweight 1,900 tons and as dimensions 228.0 x 34.0 x 19.0 x 7.1 (light)-17.4 (loaded) feet. Reciprocating propulsion, 1 screw, horsepower 118 nhp, coal bunker capacity 205 tons, range 3,400 nautical miles/10 knots and speed 10 (normal cruising)-11 (maximum) knots.
