An item reported that Mr. Joseph Hatch leased Macquarie Island from the Tasmanian government. He intended to establish a business in sea elephant and penguin oil. His headquarters were to be located at Hobart Town instead of a harbour in New Zealand. He bought the brigantine Rachael Cohen which exchanged Adelaide for Hobart as homeport. To befitted out herself with oil fuelled engines for the first voyage towards Macquarie Island was she to transport 500 casks of oil to Hobart. The Daily Telegraph dated Wesnesday 28 July 1915 mentioned the company adding that the treatment plant was located at Hobart. The Rachel Cohen would leave on short notice the Bluff for Macquarie Island to load there oil for Hobart. Except for the transport of oil was she used for transporting general cargo between Hobart and the Bluff.
