Master Peabody of the American whaler Morea committed suicide according to the newspaper The Polynesian dated 30 September 1854

An item reported that master Peabody of the American whaler Morea shot himself in the Anadir Sea and that the mate took over the command coming to the Ochotsk Sea reporting much ice and scarce whales.(1)
