Richelieu-class
Paris, 1 February. According to well informed sources was the building of two battleships proposed in complementary naval budget which was to be send within shore time to the Parliament. This new building would not implicate that the total tonnage of the fleet increased while the three battleships Bretagne, Provence and Lorraine were in 1939 26 years old. However in political circles was thought that the French government would wait what the policy of other countries was in this matter before even thinking about battleships larger as 35,000 tons.(1)

1. This maximum displacement was a result of the of limiting the tonnages according to the Washington Naval Treaty a result of the conference held at Washington between November 1921 and February 1922. Proobaly is referred to the 36.000 tons Richelieu-class consisting of the Richlieu, Jean Bart, Clemencea and gascogne of which the first two were complted.
