Indian submarine Shankul (S 47) 1989-


Of the German 209/1500 design. Laid down at tha Magazon dockyard at Mumbai on 3 September 1989, launched on 21 March 1992 and commissioned on 28 May 1994.

With a displacement of 1,450 (standard)-1,660 (surfaced)-1,850 (submerged) tons were the dimensions 64,40 x 6,50 x 6,20 metres. The armament consisted of 8-53,3cm torpedo tubes in the bow. The range was while surfaced with a speed of 10 knots 13,000 nautical miles and 18,000 naurical miles by 4,5 knots, while snorkling 8,200 nautical miles with a speed of 8 knots and while being submerged varied the range between 524 and 30 nautical miles with a speed of 4-20 knots. With a fuel capacity of 157 tons was her endurance at sea 50 days. The crew numbered 36 men.
