Naval operations of the Dutch East Company at Bengal according to the Generale Missive dated 10 January 1741

Due to lacking enough ballast the ships which left Patna returning towards Batavia had to load salpetre. For this purpose men was obliged to buy an amount of salpetre consting maximum 40.000-50.000 ropia. After the Hofwegen left, were still 24.632 sacks in storage available. The costs for the Patnase fleet amounted fl. 29.174, fl. 6568 less as in 1746-1737.

Freight prizes for the barks at Hooghly were 25% less as in the year past. Of the four northward bound ships, namely the Parel, Hofwegen, Zorgwijk and Lis, the latter two still didn’t return. The former two arrived at Batavia just like the in 1737 heavily damaged Dishoeck. The Proostwijk, Schuitwijk, Ananas, Huis te Spijk, Phoenix. Velsen en Magdalena together with the sloops Rebecca Jacoba and Eva Susanna were sent towards Hooghly. The retour ships Sijbecarspel, Horssen, Dishoeck and Knappenhof were also sent to this destination. Repair costs of the Dishoeck amounted fl. 25.957, a new bassura for Kasimbazar fl. 2167. The sailing ships were doubled (‘verdubbeld’). Costs for repairing the sloops Amfioenskramer, Sibilla, Volkera and Bellasoor amounted fl. 35.005.
