The launching of the American dreadnought USS Tennessee according to the Dutch newspaper Rotterdamsch Nieuwsblad daily edition dated 2 May 1919

New York, 1 May. The super dreadnought USS Tennessee the largest warship ever built was launched at the navy yard at Brooklyn and christened by miss Helen Rogeres, daughter of the governor of Tennessee.(1) It will be the last time that champagne will be used for christening a American warship while it was ordered to use in the future for such events ordinary water.

Laid down at the News York Naval Shipyard on 14 May 1917, launched on 30 April 1919, commissioned on 3 June 1920, decommissioned on 14 February 1947, placed in the reserve, laid up on 1 March 1959 and sold on 10 July of the same year to be broken up. With a displacement of 33,190 (original)-40,950 (after refit) tons were her dimensions 624’x 97.3”(original)-114’(rebuilt 1942-1943) x 31. Her speed was 21 knots. The crew numbered 1083 men. The original armament consisted of 12-14”guns, 14-5” guns, 4-3” guns and 2-21” torpedo tubes. After the rebuilding 12-14” guns, 16-5” guns, 40-40mm anti aircraft guns and 41-20mm guns. Christened (sponsored) by miss Helen Lenore Roberts daughter of Albert H. Roberts.
