Portuguese naval preparations not for Azores but for Paraguay according to the Dutch magazine Maandelyksche Nederlandsche Mercurius dated July 1767

A tiding from Lisbon reported that the naval and army preparations not were meant for an expedition to the Azores to end the revolt there but that the destination was Paraguay to join the Spanish to end the activities of the Jesuits there. A Portuguese fluyt ship was send to Rio de Janeiro with letters and orders for the vice roi. Three warships and five transports were ready to embark the troops coming from Alentejo and Algarves.
