Dutch navy women personnel serving in Indonesia according to the Dutch newspaper Nieuwsblad van Friesland dated 6 February 1950

An item reported that until now the women of the Dutch Marva corps (1) needed for the service in Indonesia were recruited out of the volunteers. Lacking enough volunteers was the Royal Netherlands Navy obliged to point out twenty girls to depart in March of April to serve for maximum one year and to take the place of the Marva’s who served already 1,5-2 years in Indonesia.

1. The Dutch Marine Vrouwenafdeling or Marva was founded on 31 October 1944 at London where women voluntarily served in the navy mainly for facilitating tasks, since 1952 a professional corps and existed until 1 January 1982.
