An item reported that the US department of war announced that on 17 October in the European zone the American transport Antilles was torpedoed and sunk. She was homeward bound. Of the 167 men on board drowned 57. All army and airforce officers were saved by three supporting ships, of the 33 soldiers on board were 16 killed. A submarine was not sighted.
