British transport Brittanic returning Australian soldiers which werved in South Africa according to the Dutch newspaper Middelburgsche Courant dated 5 October 1901

An item reported that according from Sydney on 23 August the German newspaper Frankfurter Zeitung was informed that the enthusiasm in Australia to serve in South Africa were decreased. The British transport Brittanic embark just 216 men and some officers out of all Australia. Most of them already served in South Africa and were since their return in Australia unemployed an so without income. Some cabinets protested against further recruitments.
