Dredgers again used for military purposes in Dutch East Indies in 1884

In the chapter dealing with the department of civil public works is some attention paid to the used dredgers. That year was the main part of the available ships belonging to the so-called Priok-fleet spread over several areas in the Archipelago. In May 1884 were three hopper barges handed over to the director of finances to be used against opium smugglers. Between 9 May and 1 August was one hopper barge handed over to the resident of the Lampong districts. In August 1884 were three hopper barges and two steam launches ordered to be used in the repression of Atjeh (Achin) after they were converted for that purpose. One of those barges was in the end of February handed over to the department for domestic control in the region Laboean Batoe (residence East coast of Sumatra). The dredger Bromo was with one tug and three so-called klepschouwen (schouw=ferry) during three months at Pekalongan used for restoring the connection between this place and her roads. Due to the continuous use of the vessels was the cylinderdock often needed. This dock was also used for repairing 11 private ships.

The same year was the collier Indiana bought for coal transport and further more were two iron and two wood klepschouwen build.
