An item dated Helsingfors 4 April reported that the ice which blockaded the entrance of the port was broken by the icebreaker Murtaja.(1)

Her building at the shipyard of Bergsunds Mekaniska Verkstadts Ab, Stockholm, Sweden was ordered on 25 May 1889, her launching was on 23 December of the same year and on 25 May of the next year she was completed and not earlier decommissioned as 1958 when she was broken up. With a gross tonnage of 676 tons and a displacement of 930 tons were her dimensions 139.44 (waterline)-156.00 (over all) x 34.53 (waterline)-35.93 (moulded) x 21.5 (stern)-18 (even keel) feet or 42.50-47.55 x 10.80-10.95 x 6.55-5.5 metres. With a crew numbering 28 men reached she a speed of 12.5 knots.
