An item reported that last Friday at the shipyard de Walvisch, Amsterdam the frigate Koning der Nederlanden of 500 last was being built for B.W. van Straten (2) destined for the Dutch East Indies trade.(2) The edition dated 9 December 1836 reported that recently at the shipyard de Walvisch in Amsterdam the frigate de Koning der Nederlanden was to be launched by shipbuilder J. Nieuwveen for B.W. van Straten and captain to be G.W. van Barneveld Kooy.

Barend Willem van Starckenborg van Straten (22 February 1804 Amsterdam-25 August 1846 Bad Homburg von der Höhe, Darmstardt, Hesse, Germany) married at Batavia on 14 August 1825 with Theodora Mechtilde ten Cate (28 May 1801 Oudendijk-14 December 1864 Amsterdam). Her sister was married with Jan Bonn ship owner in the Dutch East Indies trade and after his death with captain Maarten Christoffel/Marten Christopher Löschen.

The Dutch newspaper Javasche Courant dated 29 October 1836 confirmed her building in an item dated Amsterdam 1 July reporting that at the shipyard de Walvisch in the Groote Bikkestraat shipbuilder Jan Nuveen was building the frigate ship Koning der Nederlanden of 500 lasten for B.W. van Straten captain G.W. van Barneveld Kooij for the Dutch East Indies trade.
