Hungary interested in own direct shipping lines with South America according to the Dutch newspaper Algemeen Handelsblad dated 30 December 1940

An item dated Budapest 30 December reported that the Ungarische Donau Seeschiffahrtsegsellschaft intended to found direct lines with South America. With her especially Danube build ships which also could be used for the sea trade had the exploration of the lines with the Middle East been successful. For the new destination however were larger ships with twice the sized of her Middle East freighters needed. In the meantime were 3-2.300 tons ships ordered for the line Danube port of Budapest-Buenos Aires. The full load draught was to be 4.60 metres making it possible to take a full load on board at Budapest. The resting part was to be transport with lighters to Braila and there loaded. The first ship was to be launched in autumn 1941.
