Arming merchant ships not discussed on naval conference according to the newspaper Algemeen Handelsblad dated 27 March 1930.

An item dated London 26 March reported that the British minister of navy Alexander (1) denied that at the Naval Conference the topic of arming of merchant ships was discussed when sir Basil Peto (2)asked him that afternoon in the House of Commons.

1. Albert Victor Alexander, 1st Earl Alexander of Hillsborough (1 May 1885 Weston-super-Mare-11 January 1965 London). Was three times First Lord of the Admiralty, 7 June 1929-24 August 1931, 11 May 1940-25 May 1945 and 3 August 9145-4 October 1946 and further more also minister of defence 20 December 1946-28 February 1950. Labour politician.
2.Sir Basil Edward Peto 1st Baronet (13 August 1862-28 January 1945 Bradford on Avon), Conservative politician and also active in the business world. He was twice member of the parliament in 1922-1923 and 1924-1835.
