French navy using diesel instead of steam engines for their submarines in the factoring to the Dutch magazine Marineblad dated 1916-1917 no. 3

An item referred to the magazine Army and Navy Journal reporting that the submarines of the Laubeuf design fitted out with steam engines were no match for the diesel engines as became clear during the war. The problems with the diesels in the past were now solved. Decided was to fit out the 1.000 tons submarines of the 1914-1915 program to fit out with diesel engines instead of the projected steam turbines.
