An item referred to the magazine U.S.R. dated 11 May 1939 reporting that the intention was to modernize on short notice the British battle cruiser HMS Hood.(1) The battlecruiser HMS Renown (2) was during the last two years modernized (costs 50% of the original building costs of 3.117.204 British pond sterling) but its was expected that the HMS Hood was earlier completed while already some of the Jutland-lessons were applied. The HMS Renown was fitted out with new boilers and Parsons geared turbines. Her reconstruction started in September 1936 based on the experience with the HMS Warspite,
