Dutch screw motor tanker Marpessa 1927-1964


Netherlands-flagged, IMO 5606696. Built in 1927 at the shipyard Rotterdamse Droogdok Maatschappij, Netherlands with yard number 98 for account of the Nederlandsch Indische Tank Stoomboot Maatschappij. International sign PLJV (1930) and callsign PFVE (1930); www.shipmotions.nl/RDM claims for the Curacaosche Scheepvaart Maatschappij 1927-1928 and than transferred to the N.I.T. Between 1950-1957 owned by the shipping company N.V. Petroleum Maatschappij La Corona at The Hague, Netherlands and since then by the Company Shell Venezuela until she was broken up in 1964 at Simons, Netherlands.. Tonnage gross 7.408 and 4.237 net tons. Loading capacity 9.750 tons. Cargo capacity 6526.393 cubic feet. Dimensions 440’4” (between perpendiculars) x 59’5” (maximum outside thrushes) x 25’7½“ (middle)-32’0” x 32‘9“ (depth at the sides).

The Dutch newspaper Nieuwe Rotterdamsche Courant dated 13 June 1926 reported her launching for account of the N.V. Petroleum Maatschappij La Corona at The Hague on 12 June by Mrs. W.N. ZulverPoth. She was built according to the Millar system. Another Dutch newspaper Algemeen Handelsblad dated Thursday 24 February 1927 reported her successful trial on the Tuesday before.
