In the meeting of the commissaries on 18 May 1881 was decided to break up the bark ship Stad Middelburg (1) in the past bought by the shipyard. The director was to sell the parts private of through auctions against the highest profit. On 25 June he reported that already on short notice the inventory would be part sold. Not everything was directly sold. On 22 July 1882 became it clear that the costs for a sheer leg necessary for the lifting and placing of the heavy engine parts for the Rotterdamsche Lloyd were to become much higher as earlier estimated. The masts of the Stad Middelburg were not suitable to be used as legs. Ludwich Stuckenholz offered to built a sheer leg with a lifting capacity of maximum 40 tons for ƒ 23.000 excluded the ƒ 5.000 needed for foundation and ancillary works. Decided to acquire such a sheer leg.
