German shipping companies laying up ships according to the Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf dated 8 April 1930

An item dated Hamburg the 7th reported that due to the decreasing demand for tonnage the German shipping company Nord Deutsche Lloyd decided to lay up some cargo vessels. The Hamburg-Amerika Line laid five ships including the 8.000 gross register tons steamship Hessen up, making a Total laid up tonnage of 30.000 tons. The company stated that this was a temporarily measure and that just old ships were laid up.
