Thanks to the fact that nowadays more and more books are
digitized we are able to read books that are some times for decades no longer
available for the public for several reasons. That’s quite a pity while these
books contains useful information while the archives are destroyed, incomplete
or nor accessible.
p. 92: “The following signficant paragraph is taken from
the Commercial Advertsier of this city: Among the outward bound vessels which
went to sea on Sunday was a new and very superior full-rigged brig of about 180
tons burthen, called the “Liberty”, bound, we understand, to Vera Cruz,
although we do not see her name among the clearances. She was built at Messrs.
Brown & Bell', ship-yard, whose fame in ship-building,is well known to the
public. If we may be allowed to guess, she will prove herself a very formidable
enemy to Commodore Moore or the Texan Navy. She is pierced for ten guns, and
carries a Paixhan gun, a long 1 Tom, and the usual equipments pertaining to a
man-of-war. We presume that she is intended for the Mexican Navy.”
