German merchant ships in wartime part of navy according to the Dutch newspaper Algemeen Handelsblad morning edition dated 4 May 1895

The German Navy Department signed a contract with the Bremer Lloyd and a shipping company of Hamburg according to which the companies in wartime make available six of their large Atlantic liners. The ships were to join the sea manoeuvres in 1895.
