British submarine HMS E 14 sunk according to the Dutch newspaper Het nieuws van den dag dated voor Nederlandsch-Indië dated 7 February 1918

An item dated London, England 5th referred to an announcement of the British Admiralty that the British submarine E 14 which departed on 29th January towards the Dardanelles to destroy the Goeben. Turkish official telegrams reported that a submarine was sunk off Kumkale Selen under while loosing her periscope. According to the British Admiralty were except for the E 14 all British warships safely returned to their bases.

1. The SMS Goeben was a German battle cruiser of the Moltke-class, ordered on 8 April 1909, laid down at the shipyard of Blohm&Voss, Hamburg, Germany on 28 August 1909, launched on 28 March 1911, commissioned on 2 July 1912, handed over to Turkey on 16 August 1914, renamed Yavuz Sultan Selim and not earlier broken up as in 1973.
2. Laid down at Vickers, Barrow, England on 14 December 1912 and commissioned on 18 November 1914. In June 2012 was her wreck discovered.
