Russian protected cruiser Pallada 1895-1904 and Japanese Tsugaru 1905-1924

Of the Pallada-class consisting of the Pallada, Diana and the still existing Aurora. Laid down at the Admiralty Shipyard, St. Petersburg, Russia on 1 December 1895, launched in August 1899, sunk by Japanese howitzer fire whiel lying at Port Arthur on 8 December 1904, captured by Japan in 1905, renamed Tsugaru, served as training ship and later as a minelayer until she was decommissioned in 1922 and used as a target in 1924.

Displacement 6.839 tons and as dimensions 126,8 x 16,8 x 7,3 metres or 416 x 55.1 x 24 feet. Machinery consisted of 3 vertical triple expansion steam engines and 26 Belleville boilers supplying via 3 shafts 13.000 hp allowing a speed of 19 knots. Range with a coal bunker capacity of 972 tons and a speed of 10 knots was 3.700 nautical miles. Crew numbered 578 men. Armour consisted of a 5cm/2”-6,2cn/2.4” thick deck with the conning tower protected by 15cm/5.9”. Armament consisted of 8x1-15,2cm/6” guns, 24x1-7,5cm/3” guns, 8x1-3,7cm/1.5” guns, 2x1-63,5cm L/19 Baranowski landing guns and 3x1-38cm/15” submerged torpedo tubes.
