An item referred to a telegram received from Lisbon, Portugal reporting that crewmembers of the Portuguese cruiser Adamastor (1) deserted at Lourenzo Marque, Mozambique to join the Boers (2) as artillerists. Among the deserter seemed to be an officer who lead the revolt at Porto in 1891.(3)
Notes
1. She was launched on 12 July 1896 at the yard of Orlando, Leghorn, Italy, completed in 1897 and finally discarded in 1933. Her crew numbered 227 men and she was armed with 12 guns.
