Japanese battleship Nagato survived first nuclear test according to the Dutch newspaper Nieuwe courant dated 31 July 1946


An item reported that the Japanese battleship Nagato (1) was still floating after the fifth atomic bomb exploded off Bikini although heeling. A second item dated Los Angeles, USA 30th however reported that she finally sunk. She survived the first test.

1. Laid down at the Kure Naval Arsenal on 28 August 1917, launched by admiral Kato Tomosaburo on 9 November 1919, completed on 15 November 1920, commissioned on 25 November 1920 and finally sunk after being used as a target during Operation Crossroads (nuclear weapon tests) on 26 July 1946.
