An item reported that the British mother ship for destroyers Una (1) visited the Dutch East Indies harbour Macassar between 13-14 November 1915.(2)
Notes
1. The Australian sloop HMAS Una? This was the former German motor launched Komet captured by Australian infantry and commissioned as a patrol and general purpose vessel on 17 November 1915, serving around New Guinea, New Britain, New Hebrides and Malayan waters, decommissioned on 39 June 1920 and sold on 27 January 1925 to the Pilot Office. Launched at the shipyard Bremer Vulkan, Bremen-Vegesack on 4 June 1911.
2. The Dutch newspaper De Sumatra post dated 16 November 1915 reported the departure a day earlier of the British auxiliary cruiser Una from Macassar. Outside the roads were 4 Australian warships waiting for her. The squadron commander visited the Dutch authorities. The edition dated 15 November reported the arrival on Saturday and her intended departure tomorrow. Again she was called a British auxiliary cruiser. Another Dutch newspaper Bataviaasch nieuwsblad dated 15th November confirmed the latter. Perhaps she was involved in the Choncho affaire. The Dutch newspaper Het nieuws van den dag voor Nederlandsch-Indië dated 22 November 1915 explained more or less the visit of the French and Australian warships in the waters of Dutch East Indies in November 1915. The Kersaint is called a gunboat. In Saturday night [20th} was south of Bali, Dutch East Indies the American 12.000 tons cargo ship Choncho hold and bought to Singapore. She was loaded with arms and ammunition with an estimated of 5 million pound sterling. Suspected was that the arms were needed for an attack from the south on the Suez Canal. Another Dutch newspaper De Sumatra Post dated 22 November corrects her tonnage, in stead of 12.000 tons was she 7.000 tons. She had a Turkish crew although onboard were the 2nd, 3rd and 4th officer and 3 crewmembers of the German steamship Offenbach on board.
