An item reported that the Japanese destroyer Niji (1) visited Oleh-leh, Dutch East Indies between 27-29 April 1900 and Sabang (2), Dutch East Indies on 29 April 1900.(3)

1. Of the Ikazuchi-class, laid down by Yarrow Shipbuilders, Poplar, London, England on 1 January 1899, launched on 22 June 1899, completed on 29 July 1899, grounded off Sahntung Peninsula on 29 July 1900 and stricken as beyond salvage on 8 April 1901.
2. Sabang had an important coal bunkering station.
3. The Dutch newspaper Soerabaijasch handelsblad dated 11 June 1900 confirmed her visiting Sabang for bunkering coal. Another Dutch newspaper Sumatra-courant dated 19th June called her Hu Niji.
