An item referred to a statement of admiral Watson (1) that on 2nd November the American cruiser USS Charleston (2) was lost on a coral reef north east of Luzon, Philippines. The with rifles armed crew landed safely on the island Kamuguin of which the people were friendly. Watson asked Hong Kong for assistance.
