Japanese cargo ship (ex-ss Thistle More 1917-1923, Wheatmore 1923-1928, Ursula Rickmers 1928-1940, Teishin Maru 1940-) Teisen Maru -1944




Ex Thistle More of Johnston Wm.Co., Johnston Line-Belgian Maritime Trading, Liverpool. United Kingdom, renamed Wheatmore in 1923 of Furness Withy&Co. Ltd., Londin, England, renamed Ursula Rickmers in 1928 of Rickmers Reismühlen Rhederei&SChoffbau A.G., Bremerhaven, Germany, renamed in 1940 Teishin Maru of Teikoku Kisen J.K., Tokyo, Japan and finally renamed Teisen Maru and torpedoed and sunk by the American submarine USS Flasher (SS-249) in the South Sea on a distance of 300 miles east of Cape Varella, French Indochina on 3 May 1944.(1) Built by Irvine’s Shipbuilding&Drydock Co., Ltd., West Hartlepool, Sunderland, United Kingdom with yard number 558 in 1917. Gross register tonnage 5.050 tons, deadweight 8.600 tons and as dimensions 128.1 x 16.3 x 8.4 metres. The triple expansion steam machinery supplied 686 nhp allowing a speed of 12 knots.

1.Gato-class submarine, laid down by Electric Boat Company, Groton, Connecticut, USA on 30 September 1942, launched on 20 June 1943, commissioned on 16 March 1943, decommissioned on 16 March 1946, stricken on 1 June 1959 and sold to be broken up on 8 June 1963.
