Ex-USS Eversole (DD 789) laid down by Todd Pacific Shipyards, Tacoma, Seattle, Washington, USA on 28 February 1945, launched on 8 January 1946, commissioned on 10 May 1946, decommissioned on 11 July 1973, handed over to Turkey on 11 July 1973 renamed Gayret, stricken from the US Navy list on 21 September 1973 and stricken from Turkish navy list in 1995 and became a museum ship. Part of the Gearing-class, preceded by the Allen M. Sumner-class and succeeded by the Norfolk-class. General technical details of the Gearing-class. Displacement 3,516 (full load) tons, in Turkish service 2.425 (standard)-3.500 (full load) tons and as dimensions 119,02 x 12,45 x 4,37 metres or 390.6 x 40.10 x 14.4 feet. The machinery consists of geared turbines and 4 Babcock&Wilcox boilers supplying via 2 shafts 60.000shp allowing a speed of 35 knots and with a speed of 20 knots a range of 4.500 nautical miles. In Turkish service with a fuel oil bunker capacity of 65 tons was the range 5.800 respectively 2.400 nautical miles with a speed of respectively 15 and 25 knots. Crew numbered 336-275(in Turkish service) men. Armament consisted of 3x2-12,7cm/5” cal 38 guns, 2x4&2x2-4cm Bofors anti aircraft guns, 11-2cm anti aircraft guns, 10-43,3cm/21” torpedo tubes, 6 K-gun depth charge throwers and 2 depth charge tracks. Armament by1981 2x2-12,7cm/5” Mk38 guns, 1x2&2x1-20cm guns, 1x2-3,5cm guns, 1 ASROC 8-tube launcher and 2x3-Mk32 torpedo tubes. Fram II version.
Laid down by Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, Kittery, Maine, USA on 20 May 1950, launched on 11 June 1952, commissioned as the USS Gudgeon (SS 567) on 21 November 1952, reclassified as SSAG-567 in November 1979, decommissioned on 30 September 1983, leased to Turkey and commissioned as YCG Hizirreis (S342) on 30 September 1983, sold by USA to Turkey in June 1987 and stricken from US navy list on 6 August 1987, decommissioned on 4 February 2004 and became a museum ship. General technical details of the Tang-class attack submarines, preceded by Barracuda-class and succeeded by Skate-class, Nautilus and Seawolf. Displacement 1.585 (surfaced)-2.296 (submerged) tons and as dimensions 82,04 x 8,28 x 5,2 metres or 269.2 x 27.2 x 17 feet. Speed 15,5 (surfaced)-18,3 (submerged) knots; in Turkish service respectively 16 and 16 knots. Range in Turkish service while surfaced 7.600 nautical miles with a speed of 15 knots. Test diving depth 250 metres/820 feet. Crew numbered 83-87 (Turkish service) men. Armament consisted of 8-21/53,3cm (6 fore, 2 aft) torpedo tubes for which 26 torpedoes were carried. Jane’s Fighting Ships 1991-1992 mentioned a displacement of 2.100 (surfaced)-2.700 (submerged)
