Built in 1899-1901 by Harland&Wolff, Belfast, Ireland for account of the White Star Line as the Suevic as a reefer annex ocean liner transporting emigrants between Liverpool, England-Cape Town-South Africa and Sydney, Australia. In the Second Boer War she served as troop transport. Launched on 8 December 1900 and begun her maiden voyage on 23 March 1901. In 1928 sold to Finnval A/S, Osllo, homeport Tønsberg, Norway, converted into a whaling factory ship in 1929 and renamed Skytteren. Entered after Norway was invaded by the Germans in April 1940 Gothenburg, Sweden, was there interned and purchased by the shipping company Nortraship. Loaded with Swedish steel and ball bearings she tried to run the German blockade on 1 April 1942. After she was damaged by German gunfire was she scuttled by her own crew in the Skagerak off Måkeskär. Gross register tonnage 12,538 tons, under deck 9,046 tons, net tonnage 7,276 tons and as dimensions 167,6 x 19,3 x 12,2 metres or 550.0 x 63.3 x 39.9. Speed 13,5 knots. Oil fuelled steam engines.
