American whaler Mount Vernon visited Payta, Peru according to the newspaper The Inquirer and Mirror dated Wednesday 1 January 1834

An item referred to a letter from Charles Higginson dated Payta [Peru] 15 September 1833 reported the visit at Payta on 22 August of the American whaler Mount Vernon master Coffin of Nantucket 11 months out 550 barrels oil.
