An item referred to notes of a naval officer of board of a British cruiser active in the Adriatic between August 1916-October 1917. He wrote that around March 1917 the British established a seaplane base at Otranto on a distance of 50 miles from Brindisi. The aircraft consisted of Shorts and some Baby Sopwiths for patrolling above the drifter barrage. Vere rarely landed British aircraft at Brindisi.
