American whaler Columbus visited Monganui, New Zealand according to the New Zealand newspaper Daily Southern Cross dated 26 June 1857

An item reported the arrival at Monganui, New Zealand on 9 March of the American whaler Columbus of 334 tons from New London, USA master J.L. Ward 8 months out 100 barrels whale 30 barrels sperm 1.000 lbs bone, cleared for whaling of 20 March.(1)
