Italian navy bombarded Grvosa and Ruga-Vecchi according to the Dutch newspaper Leeuwarderder courant dated 20 July 1915

An item dated Vienna, Austria 19th reported that in the morning the day before 8 Italian cruisers and 12 torpedo boats appeared off Ragus-Vecchia and Gravosa opening fire on the railroad and railroad station of Gravosa and some villages at Ruga-Vecchia. Totally were around 1.000 shots heard. When the Italian cruiser Guiseppe Garibaldi at 5.45 o’clock was torpedoed, retreated the Italian forces hastily.(1)

Note

Of the Guiseppi Garibaldi class armoured cruisers, preceded by Vettor Pisani-class and succeeded by Pisa-class. Laaid down by Ansaldo&Co., Genoa, Italy on 25 July 1893, launched on 27 May 1895, acquired on 14 July 1895, since 1920 training ship, stricken on 20 March 1934 and sold to be broken up on 5 November 1935.
