Large number of German Greenland whalers and seal hunters fitted out according to the Dutch newspaper ‘s Gravenhaagsche courant dated 11 March 1818

An item dated Hamburg, Germany 6th reported that in 1818 51 ships left the Elbe for whale and seal hunting off Greenland consisting of 13 ships from Hamburg, 9 of Altona, 15 of Gluckstadt, 8 of Bremen, 2 of Itzehoe and 4 of smaller places.
