British cruiser HMS Theseus temporarily grounded on Sicilian coast according to the Dutch newspaper De locomotief dated 31 July 1899

HMS Edgar

An item dated London, England 12th reported that the British cruiser HMS Theseus of the Mediterranean squadron stranded in the fog on the Sicilian coast off Girgenti. Measured were taken to refloat her. An item dated 13th reported that she was undamaged refloated.(1)

1. Part of the Edgar-class protected cruisers 1st class consisting of the Edgar, Hawke, Endymion, Royal Arthur (ex-Centaur), Gibraltar, Grafton, St. George, Theseus and Crescent, preceded by the Blake-class and succeeded by the Powerful-class. Built under the Naval Defence Act of 1889. Laid down by Thames Ironworks, Leamouth, England on 16 July 1890, launched on 8 September 1892, commissioned on 14 January 1894, rearmed and fitted out with bulges after October 1914 and broken up in Germany in 1921.
