An item reported that on Tuesday on board of the German cruiser SMS Wacht a boiler exploded killing 4 stokers and wounding lightly a petty officer and another 3 men. The Wacht was part of the fleet to execute the autumn manoeuvres.(1)

Of the Wacht-class avisos, sister ship Jagd, preceded by Greif and succeeded by the Meteor-class, laid down at AG Weser in August 1886, launched on 27 August 1887, commissioned on 9 August 1888 and sunk in a collision with the German ironclad SMS Sachsen when passing the Danzig Bay on 4 September 1901.
