French cruiser Lamotte Piquet visited the Dutch East Indies according to the Dutch newspaper De Indische courant dated Monday 5 September 1938

Duguay-Trouin class light cruisers

An item reported that on the Saturday evening before sports competitions were organized to entertain the crew of the French cruiser Lamotte Piquet. (1)Dutch naval sailors won with 8:1 the water polo competition. Further more were 3 boxing matches, 2 as demonstrations, the third one however a real match in which a French sailor in the second round was K.O. by the navy boxer Dreesen.(2)

1. Part of the Duguay-Trouin class light cruisers consisting of the Duguay-Trouin, Lamotte-Picguet and Primauget, succeeded by the Jeanne d’Arc. Laid down at the Arsenal de Lorient, France on 17 January 1923, launched on 21 March 1924, commissioned on 5 March 1927, stationed in the Far East (French Indochina) since 1933, participated in defeating a Thai squadron on 14 January 1941, training hulk in October 1941, disarmed in November 1941 and sunk by American aircraft in the so-called South China Sea Raid in the harbour of Saigon on 12 January 1945. Broken up after the Second World War.
