British escort repelled Italian attack on convoy towards Malta according to the U.S. Joint Intelligence Committee. Daily summary dated 26 March 1942

An item reported the successful arrival of a British convoy at Malta despite Italian naval and air attacks resulting in the loss of one merchant ship and a second damaged and several warships damaged. British cruisers and destroyers managed to repel a strong Italian force which included a Littorio-class battleship and 2 heavy cruisers. The battleship was even damaged by a torpedo and 15.2cm/6”- gunfire.(1)

Note

1. The Italian battleship Littorio was involved in the Second Battle of Sirte on 22 March when attacked a British Malta-bound convoy but she had just one 12cm/4.7” hit and damaged her self 2 British destroyers.
