British squadron underway from Turkey towards Malta according to the Weekly Intelligence Summary Nr. 10 for the week ending 11 September 1920

Iron Duke-class


An item reported that the British battleships HMS Emperor of India (1) and Marlborough (2) accompanied by 4 destroyers would leave Constantinople, Turkey on 24 September, underway visiting Smyrna [Turkey], Cyprus, Haifa [Mandatory Palestine nowadays Israel], Jaffa [Mandatory Palestine nowadays Israel] and Egypt, arriving around 23 October at Malta.

1. Part of the Iron Duke-class battleships (5x2-34.4cm/13.5” cal 45 Mk V guns), preceded by King George V-class, succeeded by Queen Elizabeth-class, ordered in 1911, laid down by Vickers, Barrow-in-Furness on 31 May 1912, launched on 27 November 1913, commissioned on 10 November 1914, decommissioned and sunk as target in 1931, salvaged and sold to be broken up broken on 6 February 1932 arriving 10 days later at the scrapyard.

2. Part of the Iron Duke-class battleships (5x2-34.4cm/13.5” cal 45 Mk V guns), preceded by King George V-class, succeeded by Queen Elizabeth-class, ordered in 1911, laid down by Devonport Dockyard on 25 January 1912, launched on 24 October 1912, commissioned in June 1914, stricken and sold to be broken up on 27 June 1932.
