Italian submarine Bario 1943-1943, German UIT-7 1943-1945, Bario 1945-1961 and Pietro Calvi 1961->1971

Of the Tritone-class or Flutto-class type II. Dimensions 64.19 x 6.98 x 4.93 metres a displacement of 928 (surfaced)-1.131 (submerged) tons. Crew numbered 49 men including 5 officers. Speed 16 (surfaced)-8 (submerged) knots. Range surfaced 5.400 nautical miles/8 knots respectively 2.000/16 and submerged 80 nautical miles/4 knots respectively 7/8. Armament 7-53,3cm/21” torpedo tubes (4 for, 2 aft), 1-10cm/4” cal 47 gun on the fore deck before the tower and 2x1-2cm anti aircraft guns. Diving depth 130 metres. After 1961 displacement 800 (standard)-905 (surfaced)-1.107 (submerged) tons and as dimensions 66.0 x 7.0 x 4.0 metres or 216.5 x 23 x 13.2 feet. Crew numbered 60 men. Range 10.000 nautical miles/8 knots. Speed 14 (surfaced)-14 (submerged) knots. Armament 5-53.3cm/21” torpedo tubes. Built by CRDA, Monfalcone, Italy. Laid down 20 March 1943, captured by the Germans after the Italian armistice of 3 September 1943, launched 23 January 1944, renamed UIT-7, scuttled in May 1945, in Italian hands in 1945, rebuilt with a tear drop bow and modernized between 1957-1959, launched on 21 June 1959, renamed Pietro Calvi (S503) in March 1961, commissioned on 16 December 1961 and stricken between 1971 and 973.
