Chilean merchant ship Tolten sunk by submarine according to the U.S. Joint Intelligence Committee. Daily summary dated 17 March 1942

An item reported that on 13 March the Chilean merchant ship Tolten was torpedoed by a submarine and sunk off Barnegat. In the night she was seen with lights on, but around midnight turned off a patrol vessel ordered her to do so. It the routing instructions supplied at Baltimore were followed she could not been proceeding at night in the area. Recently was the Lemuel Burrows sunk by a submarine after not following the routing instructions.
