Japanese river gunboat Kotaka 1929-1944

Building ordered under the Fiscal year 1929, laid down by Mitsui Engineering&Shipbuilding Tama Shipyard on 2 September 1929, launched on 18 January 1930, completed on 1 November 1930, served on the Chinese Yantze river, sunk in an Allied air attack while acting as a communication ship on the Yangtze on 31 May 1944. Building costs 246,571 Japanese yen. Displacement 50 (standard)-62 (standing) tons and as dimensions 30 (between perpendiculars)-30,5 x 4,90 x 0,64 metres or 98.5 x 16.1 x 2.1 feet. Machinery consisted of 2 Niigatta Iron Works diesels with 540 bhp horsepower allowing a speed of 15,5 knots and a range of 1,000 nautical miles/10 knots. Armament consisted original of 3-7.7mm Type 92 machine guns and in 1942 remained two. Sometimes called a chore ship and Kotaka class torpedo boat
