Several Japanese merchant and warships sighted in the Solomon Islands-area according to the U.S. Joint Intelligence Committee. Daily summary dated 30 August 1942

An item reported that on 28 August in the Faisi (Shortland Island-Buin (Bogainville Islands, Solomon Islands area 2 Japanese cruisers, 7 destroyers, 2 cargo ships and 4 flying boats were sighted and in the nearby Buka passage another cruiser, a destroyer, a possible seaplane tender and a cargo ship.
